Specialized Committee

USCC

United States Constitutional Convention

Committee Overview

In this specialized committee, delegates would debate what the future of the US should look like. The two sides, Federalists and Anti-Federalists, have opposing views on the structure and policies of the government. Delegates must negotiate key issues like representation and federal and state governments. By the end of the committee, delegates should ideally create a "Constitution" that addresses all the issues in the Articles of Confederation, and lay the foundations of the government of the US.

Topic: Addressing Colonial Issues Before the Constitution

The future of the United States is uncertain, and its up to the delegates in this committee—you—to decide what comes next. Federalists and Anti-Federalists strongly disagree on how powerful the national government should be and how states should be represented. Delegates will debate major issues like representation, federal vs. state power, and individual rights, all while trying to fix the problems created by the Articles of Confederation. By the end, the goal is to draft resolutions that solve these issues and set up a stronger government for the new nation.
