Special Political and Decolonization Committee

Committee Overview

SPECPOL delves into many aspects regarding cross border policies and foreign state relations, but unlike the Security Council, can not impose military sanctions to enforce policies. SPECPOL is still a UN body of course and is able to create strong policies of international law and address security gaps through international cooperation. Our committee will address the effects of colonization, the active efforts to regain control over previously colonized territories, the policies needed to secure border lines, managing immigration, addressing terrorism, and, of course, the consequences/surveillance needed to ensure the created policies are kept.

Topic: Enforcing Border Policies and State Relations

Border relations will be highlighted between several opposing and allied countries. There will be be major splits, one in favor of overarching state sovereignty, versus keeping peace and enforcing laws that ensure current territories and the safety of its inhabitants. We'll have delegates debate on the policies needed to maintain international peace, even with some countries' intentions of invasion. Along with this, delegates can discuss how countries would like to deal with displaced persons dispersed from previous or emerging invasions.
